Nile Institute of Management Studies Arua (NIMSA) is a Private Tertiary Institution. It provides business, management and vocational skills. The Institute was founded in May 2001 by sons and daughters of West Nile Region so as to address the challenge of lack of employable skills among the youth in the region. In the last 21 years of her operations, the Institute has trained and successfully graduated thousands of students from diverse backgrounds, who are positively contributing to the social and economic development of their communities.

Governance and Management Structure of the Institute
The Governance and Management Structure of the Institute consists of five important organs. They include the Board of Directors; the Governing Council; the Academic Board; the Staff Association; and Students Guild Council.
The Board of Directors
The Board of Directors ( BoD) represents the founding body of the Institute. The BoD bears the legal responsibility on how the Institute is governed. The Board of Directors of NIMSA has a wide range of roles, which broadly have been clustered into three main areas; including: (1). Governance i.e. ensuring that there is in place some management structures within which processes, rules and decisions are made in the Institute for its smooth operates (2). Provision of Strategic direction i.e. the BoD decides and helps guide the management of the institute how to address potential threats and seize available opportunities through Strategic planning, by setting both short and long-term goals. (3) Accountability i.e. the BoD of the Institute has a legal responsibility of providing oversight and ensuring accountability for what takes place in the institute. The Board also ensures that all the legal and ethical standards pertaining to the running of an educational institution are followed; and that the assets and resources of the institute are properly managed. The Board of Directors of NIMSA consists of a team of four directors. It is headed by Duku Jaafar Mohammed as the Chairman; Drabe Ismail Adiris as the Vice Chairman; Anyole Abdulrazak is the Board Secretary; and Izale Iddi Dickens is the Director for Finance and planning.

The Governing Council
Nile institute of managements Studies Arua, like any other legally operating Tertiary Institution, has a well constituted Governing Council. The fifth Governing Council assumed office in October, 2021. The Council has a membership of eight people. Mr. Ayiman M. Rasul is the Chairperson. He is deputised by Mr. Batal Gabriel Modi. Eng. Tiyo O’daa, is the Chairperson for Finance, Development and planning; while Ms Masudio Stella, Ms Adoru Anne, Mr. Orio Wilson and Mr. Jaafar Mohammed are other members of the Council. The Governing Council is the governing body of the Institute and exercises the general management and control over the affairs and the property of the Institute.

The Academic Board
The routine academic related operations of the Institute are vested in the Academic Board of Institute. The Board consists of the principal, as its leader; the deputy principal; the heads of departments; the registrar and deputy registrar; the librarian and the bursar are some of the members of this body. The Academic Board performs the following roles among other things: Initiate proposals relating to the general conduct of the affairs of the institute. It validates the content and standard of any course; initiates, prepares, evaluates and submits academic programmes of the institution for accreditation; It proposes regulations to be made by the Governing Council regarding the eligibility of persons for admission to any course of study; propose regulations regarding teaching, assessment and requirements for awards, graduation and scholarships. It sets the standard of proficiency to be gained in each examination for any award; It provides academic leadership through promotion of excellence in teaching and learning, and ensures that NIMSA embraces a philosophy of quality enhancement and innovation. It ensures that a culture of scholarship is developed, nurtured and embedded within NIMSA; Monitors and regularly reports on compliance with academic policies. It makes decisions on all aspects of courses development accreditation and the admission of students,

Staff Association
There exists an Assembly of the Staff of the Institute. The purpose of this body is be to promote the general welfare of the staff; protect and advance the interests of its members; advance the employment status and make the members of staff gain recognition as an importance and integral part of the system of the Institute. The leadership of the Association is elected by its members. Ms Adoru Anne is the current leader of the Staff Association. She represents the staff in the Governing Council of the Institute.
Students Guild Council
Nile Institute has a strong and well function Students Guild Council. It is headed by the Guild President who is assisted by the deputy Guild president, the Guild speaker and a team of Guild Ministers. All these ministers including the president are democratically elected by the students through a secret ballot voting system, following some weeks of vigorous campaigns. The Guild Council is for the students and is run by the students, wherein, the students have a significant say in how things are done. The Guild Officers are held to account, to the students body and also receive views from the students on what they want from the management of the Institute in respect to student issues such as fees policy, the quality of lectures and course, accommodation among others. The Guild President represents the entire students’ body in the Governing Council of the Institute.
